Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF): We're down to our last weeks of the season and then our summer break.
Our top 4 teams will face off in our playoffs, best 2 of 3 games wins
You'll still bowl even if you're not in the playoffs!
Please let me know if you won't be there tonight so I can squish teams if needed.
Pizza party next week for our final week!
We're down to the last 2 weeks of bowling. Boo. But we're having our playoffs tonight. Yay! Here's how the playoffs will work: The top four seeded teams will face off, #4 (Living on a Spare) vs. #1 (Calculated), and #3 (Closed on Sundays) vs. #2 (The Red Shirts). We'll all play our usual 3 games. If your team is NOT in the playoffs, never fear, you'll still bowl for funsies and to boost your average. Quick reminders about playoff rules:
Playoff teams must have at least 2 players present to compete. It's no fun to be in the playoffs vs. a bunch of blind scores. So, show up! If you are in the playoffs and know that you won't be here, let me know IN ADVANCE so that we can move the next team up.
Pre-bowling is ok if you're going to be gone but your pre-bowling score will not be used if you aren't present. We'll use your blinded score (average minus 10 points). Pre-bowling scores will be used for your average at the end of the season.
The winner of 2 out of 3 of those games moves on to the championship (if one team wins games 1 & 2, it's up to both teams if you play game 3. You paid for 3 games, you should play 3 games)
If there's a tie, we'll use total pins as the tie-breaker. If there's a tie there, we'll use scratch pins. If there's a tie there, then we all go home and stop playing and I turn this whole thing over to someone else.
End of season notes and looking forward to Fall:
Given that it's summer and lots of people are on vacations, if there are non-playoff teams with only 1 or 2 players who show up, I'll likely combine teams/players so we can all have that social fun we're here for.
So, if you are NOT planning on being there tonight (or next week), please reply to this email to let me know, so I can arrange those team squishes in advance and make it go as smoothly as possible!
You all are amazing. You have made this season a real joy to manage, as per usual. I hope you come back and join us in September when we start our Fall season. I have truly enjoyed spending my Sunday nights with all of you.
Given the changes in pricing, I'm experimenting with letting people have more payment options in future seasons, such as weekly or monthly recurring payments, or maybe even an annual subscription for the league, to make it a little less of a burden at the start of the season.
This means that you may get some emails with poll questions about what works best for you. Please respond as this is how I can make our league better.
And yes, it means that I may actually break down and get Venmo and Cash App as a way to accept payment.
Fall Season will start on Sunday, September 10th! You will get an email when registration is open!
As far as I know, on week 10 we will have our usual pizza party as well, so we'll end strong or at least well fed.
They stopped making/selling our usual trophy, so I'm not 100% sure the new ones will arrive on time, and for that, I'm so sorry. But winners WILL receive their trophies, it may just be delayed a bit.
Finally, I have confirmation that there are some renovations coming to our bowling alley this summer, so I can't wait to see the changes (better bathrooms, please!) and check them out with you in September.
Bowling etiquette and league reminders (I will re-send this every time):
If you pre-bowl, you must make sure to date your score card and let me know. Scorecards without dates will not be used. You can prebowl any time, just make sure that you tell them you're prebowling.
Every league bowler will have 2 free practice games per week. These games can be played Monday through Friday until 6pm or any time on Sundays. Check in at the desk and let them know that you are here for practice games, not pre-bowling. You should NOT be given a score card for practice games, and you only get 2 for free (but a discount on additional games if you want them).
Show up on time! Competitive play should start at 6:30 pm. We try to be done around 9 every week.
Try to be ready to bowl when it's your turn. I know the snack bar lines can be slow, but try to be aware of your turn to bowl and be ready.
Be aware of other bowlers: if 2 bowlers make the approach side by side, the bowler on the right has the right of way. Look around. Make sure that when it's your turn, you're not bowling at the same time as the bowlers in the lanes next to you.
Once your turn is done, finish up and get out of the way. Again, we're trying to keep things moving, so once your roll is complete, do your happy dance and let the next bowler approach.
Wear bowling shoes. This should go without saying, but street shoes can damage the approach and lead to falls. Shoes are NOT included in the price of your season, so make sure to rent your shoes when you arrive if you need to.
Keep an eye on food and drink: don't spill near the approach, wet shoes cause falls (trust me on this one). If you're a sloppy eater, then eat at the table behind the benches on the lanes.
If you are going to miss a week, let your either me or your teammates know! I can't tell you the number of times we've had to guess if someone is going to show up or not, just be a champ and let us know.
Don't be a jerk. No, seriously. We're all here to have fun. Don't be a jerk.
