Bottom Line Up Front:
No, we are not bowling this week, enjoy whatever it is you want to do Sunday night instead.
Short season means short playoffs (top 4 teams, only 2 weeks)
Amber will be selling Girl Scout Cookies, if you get a hankerin'
My dear Pindependents, here we are more than halfway through our short, sweet season. We've played 5 weeks of our 8 scheduled and have 3 more to go!
We are NOT bowling on Sunday, February 9th. Instead, we can all stay home and do whatever we choose. Watch a game! Do a puzzle! Eat chips! Bet on whether T. Swift and her bf stay together after his comments on someone who might attend the big game. Or you can watch football, whatever you like. You do you, Boo.
When we return on the 16th, as I mentioned, we'll have 3 weeks to go. That's normally when we'd take our top 8 teams and put them in a playoff bracket. This season, since it's a short one, we'll only be doing 2 weeks of playoffs, and they'll start week on 7.
Girl Scout Cookies! Amber, who plays on No Split Ends, will have Girl Scout Cookies available for sale each week, probably until the end of the season. So if some cutie patooties haven't already gotten all your cookie money, you can buy some from her. They're $6/box.
Playoffs:
Week 7, the top 4 ranked teams will play off in a semifinal match. In those games, it will be a straightforward best of 3 situation. Whichever team wins 2 of the 3 games will move on to the finals the following week.
I'll send more information next week, but you get the idea. If your team is not in the playoffs, you'll still play, but this time not for points, just for funsies. Which is what this league is all about anyway.
Don't forget your 2 free practice games each week you can use Mon-Sat until 6pm (although in the past they've let us go as late as 7pm start) and any time on Sunday. And if you're going to miss a week, you can still pre-bowl. Just remember to let me know so I can look for your scores when I get the folder with the scoresheets on Sunday. And make sure that scoresheet has the date for which you are pre-bowling.
Bowling etiquette (standard on every update email):
Be ready to bowl when it's your turn. No, seriously, don't be delaying play because you're messing around somewhere else. Being in line at the bar is one thing, but consistently having to be told it's your turn is annoying. Be considerate and ready when it's your turn.
Be aware of other bowlers: if 2 bowlers make the approach side by side, the bowler on the right has the right of way. LOOK AROUND. Make sure that when it's your turn, you're not bowling at the same time as the bowlers in the lanes next to you.
Once your turn is done, finish up and get out of the way. Again, we're trying to keep things moving, so once your roll is complete, do your happy dance and let the next bowler approach.
Wear bowling shoes. This should go without saying, but street shoes can damage the approach and lead to falls. Shoes are NOT included in the price of your season, so make sure to rent your shoes when you arrive if you need to.
Keep an eye on food and drink: don't spill near the approach, wet shoes cause falls (trust me on this one). If you're a sloppy eater, then eat at the table behind the benches on the lanes.
Don't be a jerk. No, seriously. We're all here to have fun. Don't be a jerk.
